Sad Love Poem: Make A Wish

Birthday Cake

It is a special occasion

Held in her honor

The table is beautifully set

Sparkling cider fills champagne glasses

Hungry stomachs are seduced

By the smell of

Lemon peppered chicken

Buttered mashed potatoes

Steamed vegetables

And oven-baked bread

Laughter crowds the room

What a wonderful celebration!

It is now time

To blow out the candles

And cut the cake

But not before she closes her eyes

She imagined before this very moment

She would wish for success

Or financial freedom

But instead

She finds herself

Wishing for love

Oh, how she wished

He could have been here…
